Beyond Circus and beyond belief

China has one of the oldest civilisations in the world. Za Ji, variety of feats,  were interwoven with the people’s productive labour, daily Lives and cultural beliefs. Over the long course of its development, Za Ji has always retained its explosive vitality, its roots run so deep into the daily lives of the people. Among the world’s rich heritage of performing arts, Za Ji is one of  the nation’s specialities.

Founded in 1956, Anhui Acrobatics is a full time professional troupe dedicated to performing on both the domestic and the international stage. Recent Chinese policies of opening-up and reform have brought about unprecedented changes to the troupe. A number of new items combining traditional Chinese characteristics and modern rhythm as one are now being presented to the public and are winning rave reviews both at home and abroad. As of 1995, China had signed cultural co-operation agreements with 133 countries, and has developed close cultural relations  with over  160 countries and regions.

With its astonishing performances, Anhui Acrobatics has become a leading player in Chinese acrobatics, and in international cultural exchange. Anhui acrobatics has won a host of medals for such acts as ladies and their chairs, the jumping stunts and rolling cups.For half a century Anhui acrobatics has performed in over forty countries including France, Germany, Italy, USA, Canada, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Australia.

This is the first time that Anhui acrobatics has visited Britain.  Through its performances it not only wins honour for China, but also greatly promotes understanding and friendly ties between Chinese people and the people of other countries.
